HUB-DRIVE MOTOR

Lil’Buddy Edge with Bafang Hub motorA hub drive motor is situated within the hub of the wheel, typically located in the rear wheel in our configuration. This arrangement necessitates the construction of the wheel around the motor. Hub motors are characterized by their relative simplicity and lower cost compared to mid-drive motors. They work well together with derailleurs and belt drives. Albeit with less responsiveness compared to mid-drive motors.

PRO:
- Hub motor is less complicated and less expensive
- Provide more assistance regarding the spin and work well with derailleur gears
- Maintenance and replacement is easier
- Better on flat terrains
- Hub motor is more efficent at it's optimum speed

MID-DRIVE MOTOR

Lil’Buddy Edge with Bafang Hub motorA mid-drive motor is strategically positioned within the bottom bracket area of your bicycle, with the bike's cranks directly affixed to the motor assembly. Renowned for their consistency and providing a natural pedaling sensation, mid-drive motors are, however, characterized by their heightened complexity and cost. Moreover, frames must be meticulously engineered to accommodate the installation of a mid-drive motor. The majority of mid-drive motors are equipped with torque sensors, ensuring that increased pedaling effort translates to augmented assistance.

PRO:
- Uses torque sensor, when you pedal harder you get more assist
- More consistent and natural pedaling
- Don't loose to much power while pedaling as crank are attached directly to the motor
- Quicker assist response
- In general mid-drive motors are more quiet than hub drive motors
